Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and former Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) on Friday endorsed former Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn's bid for a congressional seat in Maryland.

Why it matters: It's the latest signal of the Jan. 6 veteran's frontrunner status in the race as he heavily outpaces his opponents in fundraising and endorsements from members of Congress.

Driving the news: Pelosi, Clyburn and Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas) all released statements on Friday backing Dunn in the crowded Democratic primary for Maryland's 3rd district.

• Pelosi, a Maryland native, said she "saw Officer Dunn's courage firsthand in the face of unprecedented violence and insurrection on January 6th, when he stood firm to protect the Capitol."
• "It's been no surprise to me that since January 6th, he has stood up for what is right and called out the extremist threats to our seat of democracy," said Clyburn.

The backdrop: Pelosi marks 10 House members who have endorsed Dunn, including many members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

• Reps. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who served on the Jan. 6 committee – to which Dunn testified in 2022 – have also endorsed him.

By the numbers: Dunn has raised $3.7 million so far and had nearly $1.7 million in cash-on-hand as of the start of April, making him one of the most well-funded House candidates in Congress.

• State Sen. Sarah Elfreth, one of his top opponents in the Democratic primary, has raised $915,000 over the same period.
