Two former Mississippi sheriff’s deputies have each been sentenced for their part in torturing two Black men after a neighbor complained that the men were staying in a home with a white woman. Hunter Elward and Jeffrey Middleton were sentenced Tuesday by a federal judge in Jackson. Elward received about 20 years in prison, while Middleton received more than 17 years behind bars. Four other former law enforcement officers are set for sentencing in the case later this week. All pleaded guilty to federal charges in August. They admitted to torturing Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker with stun guns, a sex toy and other objects in January 2023.
