Pete Distad, a former Apple and Hulu executive, was appointed CEO of the new sports streaming joint venture formed by Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Why it matters: Distad will be tasked with getting the service off the ground ahead of its planned fall launch.

Zoom in: Distad, who most recently served as an executive at Apple for a decade following six years at Hulu, assumes oversight of all aspects of the joint venture, including strategy, distribution, marketing, sales and more, according to a press release on Friday.

• Once the service is running, Distad will report to a board that consists of representatives chosen by each of the three companies.
