Former GOP Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who's running for Senate in the state, said at an Axios event on Thursday that he would not vote for former President Trump in 2024.

Why it matters: Hogan, one of the most outspoken (and only) Trump critics in the GOP, is on track to run for the first time with Trump at the top of the ticket.

• Hogan told Axios' Sophia Cai that he will vote for neither Trump nor President Biden — both historically unpopular frontrunners.
• "I'm like 70% of the rest of people in America who do not want Joe Biden or Donald Trump to be president," he said.
• Hogan said earlier last year that he would support the GOP's presidential nominee, no matter who it was.

The big picture: Hogan and Trump have a long, bitter history. He had endorsed former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley for president.

• Haley dropped her bid Wednesday after struggling to dent Trump's massive lead.

Between the lines: Hogan was formerly the chairman of No Labels, but he said he brushed off the group's appeals to get him to run for president.

• "I just didn't want to be a spoiler and I didn't know if you could really get to 270," Hogan said.

Zoom out: Axios reported last month that Trump does not plan to attack Hogan in his Senate bid, despite the bad blood between them.

• Hogan said he hadn't spoken to Trump, but that he would not be shy about criticizing the GOP frontrunner on the campaign trail.
• "I don't spend time trying to just attack people for no reason, but I also don't mind standing up when I disagree," Hogan said.
