The U.S. military launched strikes on more than 85 targets manned by Iran-backed fighters in western Iraq and eastern Syria in retaliation for a drone strike in Jordan last week that killed three U.S. service members and injured 40 others. The deadly attack on Jan. 28 at Tower 22 in Jordan near the Syria border further increased tensions and Friday’s retaliation was expected.
