The first primary of the Republican presidential contest takes place in New Hampshire on Tuesday, marking the first traditional style election of the year. Associated Press reporter Michelle Price says this will be the second attempt for rivals of Former President Donald Trump to try to stop him, as he seems to be barreling his way to the nomination after the Iowa caucuses. “The governor of New Hampshire, Chris Sununu, has endorsed Nikki Haley, so he's throwing his support there. But New Hampshire is a state where Donald Trump has won in the past two election cycles, and he does have a lot of support there,” Price said. Republican and Independents will be able to vote in the New Hampshire primary. “It's a state where there's a lot more of an independent spirit among the voters there, and it's seen by some of these rivals as an opportunity to maybe peel off some who support or maybe even deny him a win,” Price said. She adds that there has also been some controversy in the New Hampshire primary involving the Democrats. “Democrats and Republicans are supposed to have contests, but because President Joe Biden is an incumbent, the contests are a little different this year. Biden and the Democrats changed up the order of their contests. They decided to issue the normal first going state, Iowa and New Hampshire. They wanted South Carolina to go first. But under New Hampshire law, New Hampshire is required under their state law to be the first primary contest,” Price said.
