This segment originally aired on January 10, 2023. Both houses of Congress are near on a bipartisan agreement for a new deal to expand a pandemic-era tax credit from 2020, known as the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERC). According to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation has identified ongoing fraud related to the tax credit that, to date, have resulted in 323 investigations involving more than $2.8 billion of potentially fraudulent ERC claims from 2020-2023. The agreement would end the ERC and reclaim some of the money to use towards expanding the child tax credit, which helps to fight child poverty. Yahoo Finance's Rick Newman joins Yahoo Finance to discuss the potential agreement and explain the benefits of the new expansion of the child tax credit.
