Mourners gathered on Thursday (January 4) for the funeral procession of the deputy head of Hamas, Saleh al-Arouri and two officials who, according to Lebanese and Palestinian security sources, were killed in a drone strike by Israel. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied it was behind the drone strike on Tuesday (January 2) in Beirut. Thousands of people gathered in the streets to pay their respects as the three coffins were carried past crowds in the Lebanese capital. Arouri, 57, who lived in Beirut, was the first senior Hamas political leader to be assassinated outside Palestinian territories since Israel began its offensive against the Palestinian Islamist group in response to its deadly rampage from Gaza into Israeli towns on Oct. 7. #hamas #saleharouri #funeral The New York Post is your source for breaking news, news about New York, sports, business, entertainment, opinion, real estate, culture, fashion, and more.
