At least 16 protesters were detained during anti-Russia demonstrations in the eastern Georgian town of Kvareli on Saturday. The protesters had gathered at the entrance of a hotel in the town after hearing reports that the daughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and her family were attending a wedding there. The demonstrators had blocked the entrance to the hotel. On Friday, anti-Russian protests erupted in the capital Tbilisi after the resumption of direct flights between the South Caucasus nation and Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier in the week unexpectedly abolished visas for Georgian nationals and lifted the flight ban Moscow unilaterally imposed in 2019 after a wave of anti-Kremlin protests in Georgia.
