Thick black smoke covers the sky above Sudan's capital, Khartoum, as Sudan's regular army and paramilitaries continue fighting that has so far resulted in the death of at least 270 civilians. MORE: In Sudan, heavy fighting was reported in and around the capital, Khartoum, early Thursday, despite a weeklong cease-fire agreed to by both sides in the conflict. Sudan’s Health Ministry says more than 500 people have been killed and nearly 5,000 wounded since the fighting began April 15 because of a power struggle between the leaders of the Sudanese government forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. “The violence taking place in Sudan is a tragedy—and it is a betrayal of the Sudanese people’s clear demand for civilian government and a transition to democracy,” Biden said in a statement. “This violence, which has already stolen the lives of hundreds of civilians and began during the holy month of Ramadan, is unconscionable. It must end.” https://www.voanews.com/a/heavy-fighting-in-around-khartoum-despite-cease-fire-/7078323.html » Subscribe to VOA News: https://bit.ly/3KIPysi » Watch more VOA News video: https://www.youtube.com/c/VOANews Voice of America (VOA) is the largest U.S. international broadcaster, providing news and information in more than 40 languages to an estimated weekly audience of 236.8 million people.
