The protein PKMzeta is known to be associated with long-term memory formation. Neurological disorders such Alzheimer's disease, as well as depression and aging, correlate with reduced levels of this protein in the brain. Researchers affiliated with institutions in Brazil and the United States have now discovered a mechanism that helps explain the link and could pave the way to future medical innovations. Their study is reported in article published in the journal Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA)—Gene Regulatory Mechanisms.
