The mother of a South Carolina teen found dead on a rural road eight years ago is about to have his body exhumed. A GoFundMe page has raised more than $50,000 for the exhumation and autopsy of Stephen Smith. His mother has been seeking answers in her son's death since he died back in 2015. The case got renewed interest following the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. While the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was investigating the double murders, the agency said it found information about mysterious deaths connected to the Murdaugh family. SLED said it was opening an inquiry into Smith's death. Back in 2015, investigators said it looked like Smith was killed after a vehicle hit him. Over the course of the investigation, authorities received tips that Smith's death was connected to the Murdaugh family.
