A Plano student died from fentanyl poisoning last month, according to the student's family and a letter to families from Plano Independent School District officials this week. District superintendent Theresa Williams sent a letter to families Wednesday evening, letting them know about the student's death and provide more awareness about the issue of fentanyl. "We recently experienced the tragic loss of one of our beloved Plano ISD students to a deadly fentanyl poisoning," Williams said in the letter. "I cannot express the sadness and grief that we are all feeling." A Plano family recently launched a Memorial and Advocacy Fund in honor of their 16-year-old daughter, Sienna Vaughn. According to the family's GoFundMe page, the Plano High School junior died from fentanyl poisoning on Feb. 19. The Plano ISD release did not name Vaughn in the letter, though Vaughn's family has been vocal about what happened to their daughter. Vaughn's family, according to their website, said she took what she thought was a prescription Percocet from a friend, thinking she could relax in her bedroom. That pill was laced with a deadly amount of fentanyl. Her family found her dead about an hour after she took the pill. The Vaughn family said Sienna was "a wonderful young woman" and had a large impact on others as a student, a cheerleader, and a Girl Scout. She also loved music, being with her friends, and playing with the family cats.
