U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, the 2016 Democratic vice presidential nominee and a fixture in Virginia politics for decades, announced plans Friday to seek reelection next year. "I'm proud of Richmond. We've got a million things where we can do better, but from 1984 when I moved here to marry this delightful lady to today, I just seen so many good things happen in the city. And I know, I felt hopeful just because of the kind of people around the table and their passion for what they're doing here in Church Hill and across the city and across the community. I have been really grappling with what to do with respect to my time in the Senate, and I'm very happy to announce that I'm going to run for a third term in the Senate. It's an unusual decision. As Ann and I worked through it really mostly since the midterms, she pointed out one of the reasons it's hard, it's an eight-year decision, most of the decisions you make in your life, they're not eight year decisions, they're like for next year or for next week. I make decisions about tomorrow, sometimes, but a Senate term is two years of campaigning, and then six years of serving, and you got to really approach it carefully. Here's why, in conversations with friends, and especially with Anne and my family, I've decided to run for a third term. I'm a servant. I love Virginia. I'm proud of what I've done. I got a whole lot more I want to do. So. Those are the four reasons."
