Tuesday marked the day that Calvin ‘Duper’ Munerlyn’s family didn’t know it was waiting for after their loved one was killed more than two years ago. That’s because Tuesday, Jan. 17, marked the last time they will be seated in the same room as the three people convicted of fatally shooting Munerlyn while he was working inside the 5th Avenue Family Dollar store in Flint back in May 2020. “Our hearts is super heavy,” said Tawana Beaugard, Munerlyn’s cousin. “And now we can possibly try to really take that leap, that big giant step to move forward. But, like I said, it’ll never be over for us because he’s gone.” Munerlyn was shot on May 1, 2020, inside the Family Dollar store where he worked as a greeter and security guard. Four people were charged and convicted in the case. A jury in November 2022 found Larry and Sharmel Teague, as well as Ramonyea Bishop, guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and felony firearm. In this video, Calvin Munerlyn's lifelong partner Latryna Sims and his uncle Ramon Munerlyn speak while surrounded by family members after the sentencing on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023 at Genesee County Circuit Court in Flint.
