These are most common along the West Coast of the U.S. with developing Pacific storms. The ribbon of moisture can extend back thousands of miles. The flash flood and mudslide threat remain high for the lower elevations and foothills of the sierra Nevada. The mountains are expected to be crushed with an addition 3-6' of fresh snow through Friday January 13. Isolated higher amounts will be possible. Los Angeles could see more rain through the first two weeks of January than picked up all of 2022. Downtown LA saw 7.18 inches through 2022. An additional 3-6" of rain will be possible through next Friday. The Hurricane Hunters are also running missions into the storm both from California and Hawaii!
