A magnitude 6.4 earthquake rocked the Northern California coast during the early morning of Dec. 20. The earthquake left two people dead, injured at least 12 people, caused gas leaks, left thousands without power and buckled a highway. California Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency for Humboldt County to support the emergency response to the earthquake. The emergency proclamation includes the activation of the State Operations Center to coordinate with local and tribal governments and provide any needed resources such as shelter, food and water, and aid in damage assessments of buildings and roadways.
