The sentencing phase is underway in the trial for former Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean, who was found guilty of manslaughter on Thursday in the 2019 killing of Atatiana Jefferson. Dean was on trial for fatally shooting Jefferson, a Black woman, through a rear window of her home while responding to a call about an open front door. Dean had been initially indicted on a murder charge, but on Wednesday the judge told jurors they could consider a manslaughter verdict.
