11 TV Hill: House leadership changes amid smaller margins of victory in Maryland

The end of one era marks the beginning of a new chapter in American politics. For the first time in almost 20 years, outgoing U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will not lead Democrats in the chamber. She's one of three longtime-Democratic House leaders who announced Thursday they will not seek leadership roles in this Congress. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, who represents Maryland's 5th District, made a similar decision as did Democratic Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina. Come January, Republicans will take control of the chamber after earning a narrow majority in the midterm elections. Already, the GOP is charting a new and different course. The next Congress will be officially sworn in on Jan. 3. In Maryland, voters chose to keep the balance of power within the state's congressional delegation the same in the 2022 midterm elections. But the margins of victory were very different from the 2020 election cycle.
