Scientists working on laser application at the RIKEN Center for Advanced Photonics (RAP) have developed a new technique using GHz bursts of femtosecond laser pulses grouped in MHz envelopes, termed BiBurst mode, for high-efficiency and high-quality ablation of silicon.
