Researchers have found considerable variations in per-capita spending on long-term care across Japan's municipalities. They identified the drivers of regional variation in per-capita spending on long-term care using regression analysis. Demand-related factors, particularly the proportion of the population over 85 years of age and the proportion with severe care-need classifications, were found to be the most significant drivers of spending.
