ASSOCIATED PRESS Rio de Janeiro - 2 October 2022 9. Various of people entering Rocinha Favela voting station STORYLINE: The two main rivals for the Brazilian presidential election voted from different cities on Sunday, and both expecting to take over a new administration period. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, president of Brazil between 2003-2010, voted from São Bernardo do Campo, where he was a union leader. Meanwhile, the standing conservative president Jair Bolsonaro voted from Rio de Janeiro under tight security and restrictions. More than 120 million Brazilians are eligible to vote in a highly polarized election that could determine if the country returns a leftist to the helm of the world's fourth-largest democracy or keeps the far-right incumbent in office for another four years. There are nine other candidates, but their support pales to that for Bolsonaro and da Silva. Recent opinion polls have given da Silva a commanding lead — the last Datafolha survey published Saturday found that 50% of respondents who intend to vote for a candidate said they would vote for da Silva, against 36% for Bolsonaro. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
