Tracking the Tropics: Fiona now prompting Hurricane Warnings for Puerto Rico and the Dominican Repu

As of 11 p.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center reports that Tropical Storm Fiona has maximum sustained winds of 60 mph as it continues to move west-northwest at 8 mph. Fiona is about 75 miles south of St. Croix. Tropical storm conditions will continue to affect the area from the Leeward Islands through to Puerto Rico throughout this evening and into Sunday. Fiona is forecasted to reach hurricane status as early as Sunday night / Monday morning. A hurricane warning is now posted for all of Puerto Rico. Heavy rainfall is expected to produce localized flooding and mudslides in areas of higher terrain particularly in the southern half of Puerto Rico.
