Flames from the Mosquito Fire moved dangerously close to the community of Foresthill in Placer County after a spot fire jumped the Middle Fork of the American River, officials said. Video from LiveCopter 3 captured heavy smoke near Foresthill High School. Multiple vehicles and structures across the street from the school were destroyed. Crews were able to narrowly avoid the flames from reaching north of Foresthill Road, where more homes and structures, including the high school, are. The Fire Integrated Real-Time Intelligence System, or FIRIS, said this flare-up alone has burned hundreds of acres. The entire area burning that is considered the Mosquito Fire has burned 57,999 acres and is 25% contained, Cal Fire said in a Tuesday evening update.
