Mosquito Fire: Placer County homes destroyed, evacuations remain
The wildfire that has expanded in size over the last several days in Placer County has jumped the Middle Fork of the American River into El Dorado County. It continues to force evacuations in both counties and has destroyed some homes. The Mosquito Fire was reported around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday near Mosquito Ridge Road on the north side of the Oxbow Reservoir. It is now threatening to burn into Foresthill. As of Thursday at 5:02 p.m., the Mosquito Fire had burned about 13,705 acres, according to mapping from the Fire Integrated Real Time Intellligence System, or FIRIS, a helicopter program through the California Office of Emergency Services.
