Boston is bracing for weeks of fallout from the MBTA shutting down Orange Line train service for 30 days. But transit officials are hoping this pause will give them the time to fix some major issues on the T. The orange line closure is scheduled to start August 19 and run through September 18. The MBTA is also also suspending Green Line service between Government Center and Union Square from August 22 to September 18, with the hope of finishing major repairs — track replacement, a new signal system and more — during service disruption. Can the T get back on track after nearly a decade of underinvestment? And what will happen to residents, their jobs, and their businesses in the meantime?
