U.S. President Joe Biden has called for the strengthening of economic partnerships in the Western Hemisphere. Speaking at the formal opening of Summit of the Americas, Biden urged his counterparts to come together to tackle some of the world's challenges. "No longer is this the question of what will we do, what will the United States do for the Americas? The question is what we can accomplish by working together as true partners with diverse capabilities but equal and mutual respect, recognizing both our individual sovereignty and our shared responsibilities," Biden said. Migration has taken center stage at the assembly of Western Hemisphere leaders, reflecting its emergence as a top foreign policy issue at this week's summit, but it has largely been overshadowed by differences over Biden's invitation list. The White House on Wednesday pushed back against the notion that the absence of several key leaders from this week's summit amounts to a backslide for democracy as administration officials sought to play up efforts on food security, climate and other areas to be discussed at this week's summit.
