Fields outside the town are still littered with unexploded ordnance from the heavy shelling in March. Now demining crews are searching the area for unexploded ordnance. Shells, missiles and mines are put deep into the ground before they are destroyed in a controlled explosion. The job is dangerous. The ammunition can be unpredictable and can explode any minute. "We’re afraid all the time, but you have to do the job. Because every ordnance and mine we take out is at least one saved life. We have to do it, it is our job, our duty,” deminer Vladyslav Vilkul told Reuters. But getting the reminders of war out of the fields is crucial.
