Residents in Mariupol spoke of their devastation as they returned to their dilapidated homes on Monday. Valentina Dmitriyeva and her family spent weeks in the basement of their own house that was severely damaged in shelling. They emerged only ten days ago. Now her son Mikhail is repairing the roof with old wooden panels as there are no construction materials available. The family was lucky that their house survived - four neighbouring houses were completely destroyed. There are no ceilings in the house so rain is coming through, the kitchen and the garage are gone, but Valentina doesn't want to start again elsewhere. "You know, home is home. It may be damaged but I have my own spoon, fork and plate here," she says. "I won't go far with the pension I have. We don't plan to leave."
