Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on Russian citizens to protest against the war following the emergence of gruesome videos and photos of bodies from the Kyiv suburb of Bucha. Zelenskiy addressed them in their native language, saying now was a “crucial moment” and urged those who disagree with the conflict to demand its end. "It's better to face the Russian repressive machine now and lose something demanding peace, than to be equal to fascists for the rest of your life." Zelenskiy also said sanctions against Russia announced by Western countries were not enough. Pressure in the West for new sanctions has risen in recent days after videos and photographs emerged of bodies laying in the streets of Bucha after Ukrainian forces regained control from retreating Russians. Some of the victims had their hands bound and were shot in the head, and satellite images indicated they had been in the streets since mid-March, when the Russian military still occupied the town. "If there is no painful package of sanctions against Russia and if there is no real supply of necessary weapons that we have asked for many times, then Russia will see it as the permission to go further, to attack, to launch a new bloodshed in the Donbas," he concluded.
