Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24 and its repeated attacks on civilian targets have led to calls in the U.S., U.K. and Europe to hold President Vladimir Putin and his subordinates accountable. U.S. President Joe Biden on April 4 said Putin could face a war crimes trial, as images emerged of bodies strewn along streets in Bucha and other Ukrainian in towns vacated by Russian soldiers. The International Criminal Court has opened an investigation into war crimes in Ukraine. However, it’s far from certain that anyone will be brought to justice under international law.
