Turkey will press ahead with its efforts to bring the leaders of Ukraine and Russia together in a bid to end the violence, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. Erdogan made the comments on Thursday at the end of an emergency NATO summit to discuss the situation in Ukraine. NATO-member Turkey has criticized Russia's war on Ukraine but has also been walking a delicate line trying to balance its relations with both Ukraine and Russia and positioning itself as a mediator between the two countries. "We will continue our discussion with both (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelenskyy," Erdogan said. "All our efforts are to bring the two leaders together and to especially establish an atmosphere of peace." Erdogan said decisions taken at the summit were "steps purely geared toward strengthening NATO's deterrence and defense set-up." "We once again underlined that the alliance is not organizing to pose a threat to Russia or other third countries," Erdogan said.
