(27 Feb 2022) Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, urged the international community to support Ukraine by imposing sanctions against Russia and cutting off business ties with the country. Speaking to the Associated Press, Vitali Klitschko called on EU countries, namely Germany, to stop "making business with the Russian Federation." Huge explosions lit up the morning sky on Sunday in Kyiv and authorities reported blasts at one of the airports. Terrified residents instead hunkered down in homes, underground garages and subway stations in anticipation of a full-scale Russian assault. Klitschko warned that destroyed infrastructure could spark a humanitarian crisis and called for more support from the West. Ukrainians have volunteered en masse to help defend the capital, Kyiv, and other cities, taking guns distributed by authorities and preparing firebombs to fight Russian forces.
