Women and children continued flowing across Ukraine's border with Poland on Tuesday as Russia escalated its attacks in the country's east and moved troops closer to the capital Kyiv. The refugees crossed at the Medyka border crossing where they were greeted by waiting relatives and friends as they reached safety. Russian shelling pounded civilian targets in Ukraine's second-largest city again Tuesday and a 40-mile convoy of tanks and other vehicles threatened the capital - tactics Ukraine's embattled president said were designed to force him into concessions in Europe's largest ground war in generations. The mass exodus of refugees from Ukraine to the eastern edge of the European Union shows no sign of stopping as they flee Russia's burgeoning war, with the UN estimating that more than 500,000 people have already escaped. An unknown number of volunteers are also arriving at border crossings to go into Ukraine and fight.
