New Zealand Gives Up On ‘Zero Covid’ Strategy Amid Persistent Delta Variant Outbreak
The New Zealand government on Monday acknowledged that it can no longer continue with its strategy of completely eliminating local Covid-19 infections after nearly seven weeks of lockdown in its largest city Auckland failed to completely stamp out community transmission of the virus, despite significantly lowering infection numbers, a major shift in policy for a country which had previously been hailed for its handling of the pandemic.
