On a day when President Joe Biden toured deadly Northeast flood damage in New York and New Jersey, his press secretary, Jen Psaki, told reporters aboard Air Force One that one hundred million Americans have been impacted by severe weather this summer. "No one is immune from climate change," Psaki said. "Every dollar that we invest saves six dollars down the road in these communities as we're preparing for extreme weather events," she said. Biden's plan to spend $1 trillion on infrastructure nationwide is pending in Congress. Psaki said federal agencies have already begun distributing aid in the wake of Hurricane Ida. "Already, FEMA has awarded approximately $170 million in individual assistance to more than 159,000 disaster survivors from IDA, and the SBA has distributed $4.7 million in loans in Louisiana," she said. "Individual assistance registration opened yesterday, just yesterday in New York and New Jersey, and over 3,000 households have already registered for assistance." With the 20th anniversary of September 11th just days away, Psaki said the president's speech is currently being worked on. Biden will visit all three 9/11 memorial sites to commemorate the anniversary and pay his respects to the nearly 3,000 people killed that day. Biden will visit ground zero in New York City, the Pentagon and the memorial outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where United Flight 93 was forced down, the White House said Saturday. He will be accompanied by first lady Jill Biden. Biden's itinerary is similar to the one President Barack Obama followed in 2011 on the 10th anniversary of the attacks. Obama's visit to New York City coincided with the opening of a memorial at the site where the iconic World Trade Center towers once stood. Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, for a separate event before joining the president at the Pentagon, the White House said. Harris will travel with her spouse, Doug Emhoff.
