New York will lift more COVID-19 rules once 70% of its 20 million residents have at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, a target that Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday he hoped would be reached in days. "When we hit 70%, then I feel comfortable saying to the people of this state, 'We can relax virtually all restrictions,'" Cuomo said. The governor said COVID-19 rules will still apply in certain settings like public transit and large venues. But Cuomo said the state would lift any remaining social distancing, capacity, health screening, contact tracing and cleaning and disinfection rules elsewhere in New York. Meanwhile, Cuomo said the state will now allow school children to remove their masks while outside during school hours. There is a "disconnect," Cuomo said, stating that he will allow the state to modify the CDC guidance and allow schools to choose a no mask outside mandate for children.
