An independent autopsy shows that Andrew Brown Jr., a Black man killed by deputies in North Carolina, was shot five times, including in the back of the head, according to a report released Tuesday by family attorneys. During a press conference on Wednesday, Black mothers who lost their sons during police shootings condemned Brown's death. "This is what they do in the Black and brown communities. They come to us, they brutalize, they terrorize, they kill." Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner said. "It's horrible what they do to us. And it has to stop. It has to stop," Carr adds. Eric Garner died in 2014 during a confrontation with police after the officer placed him in what appeared to be a chokehold. Police had suspected Garner of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes on the street on New York City's Staten Island. "They're trying to make it common to kill. For the cops to kill people of our skin tone. We got to stop it. They got be held accountable," Temeka Thatch said. Thatch's son, Frederick Cox Jr., died last year during a police confrontation in Davidson County, North Carolina. A pathologist hired by Brown's family examined his body on Sunday and noted four wounds to the right arm and one to the head, the report said. The state's autopsy has not been released yet. The family's lawyers also released a copy of the death certificate, which lists the cause of death as a "penetrating gunshot wound of the head." It describes the death as a homicide. Brown was shot Wednesday by deputies serving drug-related search and arrest warrants in the eastern North Carolina town of Elizabeth City. The autopsy results come a day after Brown's relatives were shown body camera footage of the shooting.
