The La Soufrière volcano on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent began erupting on the morning of April 9, following a day of seismic activity that prompted evacuations. #shorts The University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Centre said the “explosive eruption” was a “culmination of the seismic activity that began on April 8.” The St Vincent and Grenadines government said the eruption produced a plume of ash 20,000 feet high, which was moving east. This footage, taken in Layou, a town about 11 miles (18 km) southwest of the volcano, shows the ash column growing in height.
