U.S. President Joe Biden repeated harsh criticism of the new Georgia law restricting voting, saying the matter is now also being looked at by the Justice Department. Biden spoke to reporters upon arriving in Wilmington, Delaware. He is scheduled to spend the weekend at his Wilmington home. When he left the White House, Biden described the new law as "an atrocity." Arriving in at the Delaware Air National Guard Base, he said his words were "not as strong as I was really thinking." Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has drawn protests as he signed into law a sweeping Republican-sponsored overhaul of state elections. The law passed Thursday places new restrictions on voting by mail and greater legislative oversight of elections. Democrats and voting rights groups say the law will disproportionately disenfranchise voters of color. It's one of a wave of GOP-backed state election bills introduced after former President Donald Trump stoked false claims that fraud led to his 2020 election defeat. Biden declined to comment on his theories of the origin of the coronavirus pandemic, ahead of a much anticipated WHO report. The president also said he had spoken with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson about climate change and the NATO alliance. On assisting Egypt with the stuck ship blocking the Suez Canal, Biden said the United States has "equipment and capacity that most countries don't have and we are seeing what help we can be."
