Ten victims and the Colorado shooting suspect have been named. Police are still investigating Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa’s motive. Alissa is charged with 10 counts of murder. The killings added to a long line of mass shootings in Colorado accounting for some of the most shocking episodes of gun violence in modern U.S. history. In 2012, a young man dressed in tactical gear burst into a movie theater in the Denver suburb of Aurora during a midnight screening and sprayed the audience with gunfire, killing 12 and wounding 70. In 1999, a pair of students went on a shooting rampage at Columbine High School near Littleton, Colorado, murdering 12 classmates and a teacher before taking their own lives. 2. President Joe Biden President called for tighter gun control following the Colorado shooting. Biden is considering a number of executive actions to address gun violence in addition to legislative proposals. Executive actions that Biden could take right away include eliminating the market for ghost guns, strengthening background checks and giving money to city centers to fight gun violence, said Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, which pushes for stronger gun laws. 3. Video released by the White House shows overcrowded migrant detention centers at the U.S.-Mexico border. Almost 10,000 minors from Central America crossed illegally from Mexico into the United States without their parents in February, nearly double the previous month's figures, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data. President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are scheduled to meet with Cabinet members and immigration advisers today. 4. The U.S. Senate rules committee on Wednesday debates a sweeping voting rights bill, a top priority for the Democrats that cleared the House of Representatives earlier this month but faces steep odds in the upper chamber. Like the House version, the Senate's For the People Act would update voting procedures and require states to turn over the task of redrawing congressional districts to independent commissions. 5. The giant container ship stuck in the Suez Canal for more than a day has been partially refloated and traffic along the fastest shipping route from Europe to Asia is expected to resume soon, marine agent GAC said on Wednesday.
