In Texas, just under 500,000 homes and businesses remained without power, down from about 3 million on Wednesday. The state's grid manager, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, said the remaining outages are largely weather-related, rather than forced outages that were made early Monday to stabilize the power grid. CEO Bill Magness said during a Thursday briefing that Texas is "not out of the woods yet" but he added "we really feel like we're in a glide path, we hope." Magness says the grid is still seeing higher than normal winter demand. Senior Director of Systems Operations for ERCOT Dan Woodfin says the demand levels far surpassed those of the last severe Texas cold snap in 2011. Texas officials have ordered 7 million people to boil tap water before drinking it following days of record low temperatures that damaged infrastructure and froze pipes.
