The Democratic-run House Rules Committee was meeting Wednesday in an initial step toward removing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committees, a rare step for Congress. House Republicans, under bipartisan pressure to punish Greene, have been hoping to take action on their own - such as removing her from one committee - and avoid a difficult political vote for many in the GOP. But it appears the House will vote Thursday on removing Rep. Greene from her committees, intensifying the stakes over the Georgia Republican's online embrace of conspiracy theories and violent racist views. While Democrats and Republicans condemned her statements, Republicans said that some of the remarks were made before she became a Congressional members and so fell outside of their jurisdiction. Democrats, however, said that Greene has expressed no remorse and instead doubled down and fundraised off of the attention.
