President Joe Biden warned that today’s kids face the danger of a lifetime of poorer earnings in calling for passage of his Covid-19 relief plan. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that while it’s up to Democratic congressional leaders to decide on whether to proceed without Republican support, the need is to move quickly. “This bill should be bipartisan,” Psaki said Friday, while adding that the key question is why GOP lawmakers haven’t endorsed Biden’s $1.9 trillion proposal, given what she said are opinion polls showing 74% support for Biden’s plan. She said it’s up to Congress to determine the parliamentary procedure to use for the bill. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans for her chamber next week to take the first step toward proceeding with a Democrat-only relief bill, by considering a budget resolution. Republicans have voiced support for vaccine funding, but remain opposed to other elements of Biden’s proposal. Psaki reiterated Friday that the White House opposes breaking up the package.
