Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island erupted late on Sunday, December 20, lighting up the sky as it spewed clouds of smoke into the air. The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency asked residents to stay indoors after the eruption began at around 9.30 pm local time, and reported the eruption had stabilized by Monday morning. The timelapse was taken from Hawaii’s International Gemini Observatory and shared by NOIRLab, who said it shows the scenes from 9.21 pm on December 20 to 00.35 am on December 21.
