Nov.26 -- Germany registered a record increase in new coronavirus cases, bringing the total to just under 1 million, hours after Chancellor Angela Merkel extended a partial shutdown designed to check the spread of the disease. Meanwhile in Italy, a top government official said the European Central Bank should consider wiping out or holding forever the government debt it buys during the current crisis to help nations recover and restructure.
