Hong Kong’s Ocean Park is getting creative to find alternate, Covid-safe activities for visitors during the coronavirus pandemic. The theme park that houses marine mammals, pandas, thrill rides cable cars is introducing hiking, yoga and glamping to attract new customers. The park was forced to close temporarily twice year for over 200 days. The park reopened with limited capacity up to 75%, and is totally rely on local visitors due to travel restrictions. Lau Ming-wai, the chairman of the Ocean Park says now it’s the worst for the park in its history as there’s no inbound tourism market in Hong Kong now. So the park needs to repupose for a new market amid the pandemic. “It's not practical to expect a deep loss turning into a profit or a surplus within twelve months’ time. So I think as long as we can carry out a transition period the new Ocean Park will really de-emphasize on the traditional theme park elements and offer a diversified array of attractions and experiences for Hong Kong people that will take Ocean Park into the future, into a sustainable future,” said Lau.
