How Has Voting Changed Because of COVID-19?

It’s a complicated time to be voting — the nation is in the middle of a pandemic, and tens of millions of people are casting their votes by mail, some for the first time. For Californians, things are perhaps simpler than elsewhere: Anyone who was registered to vote was sent a ballot in the mail this year, and there are plenty of options for how and where to return one. One of the big changes at polling places this year is around coronavirus safety precautions. The state is urging counties to direct traffic flow, provide hand sanitizer, disinfect booths frequently, and enforce mask-wearing and social distancing, among other measures.
