One of China's pharmaceutical companies behind a leading Covid-19 vaccine candidate says its vaccine will be ready by early 2021 for distribution worldwide, including the U.S. CEO of the SinoVac Biotech Ltd. Yin Weidong, vowed on Thursday to apply to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to sell CoronaVac in the United States if and when the vaccine passes its third and final round of testing in humans. "At the very beginning, our strategy was designed for China and for Wuhan. Soon after that in June and July we adjusted our strategy that is to face the world," Yin said about the plans for regulation and registration. "We aim to registering with the regulators in all the countries and regions. In this way can we realize the goal of eliminating diseases for the world," he added. SinoVac is developing one of China's top four leading vaccine candidates along with the state-owned enterprise SinoPharm and military-affiliated private firm CanSino. More than 24,000 people are currently taking the vaccines in clinical trials in Brazil, Turkey, and Indonesia, with additional trials scheduled for Bangladesh and possibly Chile, Yin said as part of a press tour given to foreign media Thursday. Stringent regulations in the U.S., European Union, Japan and Australia have historically blocked the sale of Chinese vaccines. But Yin says that should change. "It may take us over a decade to finish the registration in over 100 countries. This is a difficulty not just for SinoVac but also for all the countries. So we call for broader data sharing among more countries so we can have our vaccines to enter the market as soon as possible," said Yin.
