Rev. Dr. Charles Elliott Jr. gave a rousing speech to protesters in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 24, during the second day of Breonna Taylor protests. “Thank you for letting me live long enough to see black and white coming together against injustice,” he says, surrounded by listening demonstrations. “We ask this in the name of Jesus, who is Christ the Lord. Amen.” “Amen,” the crowd echoes. “One day we gonna overcome,” he adds. Former Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Officer Brett Hankison was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree. Hankison was fired from the police force on June 23 for his role in the shooting death of Taylor. Sgt Jonathan Mattingly and Det Myles Cosgrove, the other two officers who fired their weapons while trying to serve a search warrant on Taylor’s apartment in the early hours of March 13, were not charged.
